With my chosen photo I placed it into my Photoshop document. I left alined it to make it easier when it came to adding my cover lines. The actual photo needed no editing as lighting and focus were all fine.

When I added the text for the magazine name, it became apparent that neither black nor white would work due to the extreme range of tones in the background of the image. To overcome this I added a white gradient. As this blended with the sky it didn't look too out of place.

I didn't want the lettering to be over the top of the David's face, so I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out his head and make a copy. I then put this on a different layer and placed it on top of the magazine name. This worked well and gave the cover more dimension.

In order for the cover lines to work well, I used a white typeface. To create type contrast I used different sizes, this meant that key information stood out and caught the readers attention.

This was the final design. The image is crisp and clear and conveys the magazines themes. There is suitable contrast between the type and the background, and in turn, there is contrast within the type itself. Overall I was very happy with the end result of my magazine.
